Tennis Rules

The La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club offers 13 championship tennis courts and 5 pickleball courts, all lighted for evening play. Members and registered hotel guests can use the courts free of charge.

The following rules and regulations are for the benefit and protection of all players:

  • Players with court reservations are expected to keep their reservations and not be on a waitlist for another court.
  • Prior approval is required for any round-robin play.
  • Adults have priority over juniors, except for special junior activities or events. Juniors may be assigned courts by tennis department staff for these purposes.
  • All players must wear proper tennis attire. Swimsuits, cutoffs, sports bras, and jeans are not permitted. All players must wear shirts.
  • All players are required to wear tennis shoes with non-marking soles. Bare feet, sandals, and street shoes are prohibited on the courts.
  • Strollers are not permitted on the tennis courts.

The following are reasons for dismissal from the courts:

  • Disregard for Court Rules and Social Distancing Guidelines
  • Cell phone usage
  • Smoking
  • No glass drinks of any kind
  • Unsportsmanlike conduct, including profanity or racket throwing
  • Improper attire or improperly soled shoes
  • Inappropriate behavior towards Club staff or other members and guests

We ask that everyone be respectful and not congregate around the courts. Please arrive only shortly before the reserved court time and leave the area immediately afterward.

Courts can now be reserved online with Court Reserve.

  4. Choose the day and time you wish to play.
    • Singles: 1-hour max time.
    • Doubles: 1.5 hours max time.
    • You may only book one day in advance, starting at 8:00 a.m. each day.
  5. Select singles or doubles.
  6. You may add additional players if you want, but you do not need to. To reserve and complete your reservation, you must make sure all fields with an * are filled.

Conan Lorenzo is the Club’s Director of Tennis, bringing more than ten years of professional expertise in the tennis industry. In April 2019, Conan was the recipient of the Janet Louer Junior Team Tennis National Organizer of the Year. Conan’s former experience includes five years as the Director of Junior Programs at the George Barnes Junior Tennis Center in San Diego, coaching USA Team Tennis teams and leading four teams to sectionals. Additionally, he coached and managed the Club’s World Team Tennis team, leading two teams to the national championship, with both winning first place. He also spent two years as an Assistant Pro and Master Racket Stringer at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club from 2000 to 2002 and four years as the Head Pro at the Sammamish Club in Seattle, Washington from 1998 to 2000. Conan graduated from Washington State University and spent four years on the school’s NCAA tennis team. He is also a USPTA P-1 Certified pro, official umpire, and lines person. He has been frequently published in Racket Tech Magazine, Tennis Magazine & Advantage Magazine.
